Comedy isn't funny
Went to a comedy club tonight.Yet, for some reason, I'm considering taking standup classes myself. Because the whole form seems so odd and raw: one person, alone on a stage, with an opportunity to communicate with a room full of more-or-less attentive people. Why is that opportunity so often squandered? Why does so much stand-up suck? Would I automatically suck if I stood on that stage? As an onlooker, I often wish comedians would stop trying to make me laugh and just be honest ("honesty is the best comedy," I learned doing Nina's Adventures). Why is it so damn important to them that everyone laugh? Isn't laughter incidental? Tickling makes me laugh too, but I hate it and it's torture.

What a marvelous idea...I love to listen to people talk...somewhere in this town there must be an open mike....I am not shy, I should just go and see what comes out. Thank you.
PS Can't help you with a place, I live in mobtown.
Hi Nina!
I just viewed the (4) chapters of "Sita Sings the Blues" and was very impressed by your work. It was clever to incorporate the Annette Hanshaw jazz vocals into this Ramayana theme. It gave it a real Max Fleischer feel, not unlike his Talkartoons or even Betty Boop. The best of luck in finishing this project!
