Sita in the News
Sorry I haven't posted much on Sita lately. I've been too busy actually working on the project to write about it. But as of Saturday, I've finished 2 new episodes ("Battle of Lanka" and "Return to Ayodhya"), re-formatted and re-animated some segments of "Trial by Fire," and edited all 6 musical segments into a mini-reel with explanatory inter-cards. Now I'm taking a little break, looking for money and doing an unrelated freelance gig to pay the rent. I'm not sure if I should post every new piece of animation online - I have to leave something to the imagination, so there'll be demand for the finished product. On the other hand, I really just want people to see the work, but I need money to stay alive long enough to finish it. Anyone have any suggestions? I was considering offering to mail a DVD of the work-in-progress to anyone who sends a donation of $50 or more. Is that too elitist?
Anyway, Sita's been in the news lately. Above, a clipping from a newspaper in Bombay (sorry, Mumbai) sent by alert reader Gaurav. Below, a swell article in India Abroad by Arun Venugopal.

Well, I'm a Hindu from 'Hindooostan' and I loved it. And while we still might get all tribal about Ram and go about demolishing mosques to show devotion to him, your take on the Ramayana is great. Slightly innacurate (at least from the tradional tale that is told to us) for sure, but then again all epic tales are there to be interpreted in whatever way you feel you want to. Looking forward to the remaining few chapters and I'll post the link to more people in India. I was surprised I missed the DNA piece and no-one has carried the link in a newspaper as yet. Hope you don't mind that I added your site/vid links to my blog (ok, so I took two stills as well). Thanks for making my day!
There was a slight oopsie in my first post.

This sounds very fascinating!!
am very interested in goddess images and modern interpretations of these themes. Sita sings the blues is just the kind of thing that really gets my attention.
I would be very interested in seeing your work when completed. Is there an email list I can be on?
and where do I read more on what concepts you are working with?

OK, i found a lot of stuff to read( navigating links)
This is beautiful Nina. Your understanding is Sita is amazing, with a lot more depth than many who have actually grown with these traditions.
Absolutely amazing.

Hi Nina,
I like your well drawn cartoons. I was reminded about the Amar Chitra Katha comics - was there a conscious attempt in that regard? The visuals were very innocent and dreamy.
I didn't care much for the Disneyesque, over simplified and childish narrative, however. Maybe its because I have heard, seen or read possibly every kind of Ramayana story told from different perspectives and through different mediums - so I didnt find the idea original. No disrespect meant.
Good luck with your project.
