Yikes!
I just spiffed up my Mac by installing a new internal hard drive and finally upgrading from OS 10.3 to 10.4. Then I cleared out my first hard drive to make room for about 30 GB of applications, including the latest Final Cut Studio. This morning, after many dull hours of inserting and removing discs, I restarted. Look what I saw!One manual restart later everything seems fine. Maybe my Mac was just getting a jump on Halloween.

I know where yer comin' from! My G4's hard drive failed, and while replacing a drive is simple, restoring a system is C-R-A-Z-Y.
Lugging a G4 tower thru your local mall to th Apple Store is no fun either. But those guys do kick ass and will save your life.
That is what a Kernel Panic looks like.
Just under the surface of that squishy OS X exterior lurks a Unix Machine. Kind of disconcerting when it first shows it face. Not being very knowledgable about things like that, I always envisioned it as a very frightened ear of corn.
Wow, thats amazing, I really didn't think Mac could actually do command prompt style text at all. I assumed from the lack of BIOS (replaced with EFI, which is where PCs are going) meant the interface was graphical only - like SGIs, HP, Sun etc.
I'm glad this happened as I've been wondering this since 1984!
